about us
Rupert Loch is the founder and primary educator of Feral Science Limited. Combining his skills as a science teacher, sports coach and bushcraft leader, Rupert’s sessions focus on learning-by-doing to make education more accessible for students. Since 2019, Feral Science has expanded to include home education groups and collaborations with Conkers and Urban Bushcraft. As an extension from Feral Science, Rupert has presented to new audiences at conferences and workshops, and has future plans to collaborate with SEBDA.
Science Teacher
Before founding Feral Science, Rupert had thirteen years of experience teaching the three sciences (to both secondary and high school students) inside and outside the classroom.
Sports Coach
While working as a science teacher, Rupert used his qualifications in fencing, archery, mountain-biking and climbing to create a sports enrichment programme which positively impacted the well-being and academic results of participants. At present, Rupert still coaches both climbing and mountain-biking, and enjoys archery as a hobby.
Bushcraft Instructor
After organising the end of year school enrichment day at Spring Woods, Rupert went on to complete his Institute of Outdoor Learning Bushcraft Competency training. He has since involved himself in various bushcraft shows, the Institute of Outdoor Learning Bushcraft Professional Practice Group Conference and has collaborated with members of the bushcraft community (incl. Woodland Survival Crafts, Nearly Wild Camping, and East Midlands Forest Education Network).
Conference Presenter
Rupert has presented at a series of conferences on the subject of outdoor education, and more recently the history, construction and science of the Kylie boomerang. Some of these conferences include: Global Bushcraft Symposium 2022, Association for Science Education 2022, Learning Outside the Classroom Conferences. For more detail, see here.
